Speaker all praise for officials for efforts to contain fluoride

Legislative Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Tuesday praised the district administration for doing a fine job in acting to solve the fluoride problem. He lauded the collector’s efforts at a review meeting here with officials of various districts.

Manohar said various works worth Rs 300 crore were taken up to contain the fluoride problem in Nalgonda district. He revealed that the Union government had approved a proposal to set up a fluoride research centre at Choutuppal, in the district.

The Speaker wanted the Nalgonda administration to organise special medical camps to treat the fluoride victims. He asked officials to extend medical care to them under the Arogyasri scheme, besides providing safe drinking water in the Anganwadi centres and nutritious food to students. He stressed that an additional egg be supplied in the mid-day meal and medical kits be given to the fluoride victims.

Manohar suggested to the officials of Prakasam and Ranga Reddy districts to take up similar such schemes as being implemented in Nalgonda for the benefit of fluoride victims. He mooted for the posting of a monitoring officer to oversee regular fluoride prevention measures which will also be supervised by a group of ten officials of important departments. The district collector’s senior officials should periodically review the progress of these measures.
