Muharram observed with religious fervour

Karimnagar: Muharram was observed in Karimnagar town and other places in the district on Friday with religious fervour. Muslims observe fast for 10 days and celebrate Mohurram on the concluding day.

The devotees remember the sacrifices made by their ancestral leaders Hasan and Hussain for the welfare of the community. Along with Muslims, people belonging to other communities also participated in the festival in large numbers. The alums (peers) were taken out in a procession in the main roads of the town and later immersed in an irrigation tank. Large number of devotees participated in the procession. Many of them made their offerings to the religious heads. Poor people were given food on the occasion. Participation of people belonging to various communities in the festivities indicates the religious harmony prevailing in the country, local leaders belonging to the communities said.

Adilabad: Peole belonging to both the communities - Muslims and Hindus - took part in Muharram in Adilabad with religious fervour. The sacrifices of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohamed, were remembered on the occasion. The festival was observed in Chennur, Jannaram, Asifabad, Utnoor and other places in the district.
