Woman throws kids into dam, jumps in

Hyderabad: Following huge losses in farming, a 30-year-old woman, along with her two children, committed suicide by leaping into a check-dam on the outskirts of Mohammadabad village in Ganded Mandal of Ranga Reddy district on Thursday evening. The bodies were fished out on Friday morning.

According to Mohammadabad police, the deceased B Mallamma along with her son Anil, 7 and Pournami, 3, of Kanchapally resorted to the extreme step because of crippled finances of the family. She was reportedly upset when her father refused to lend her additional amount for meeting family expenditure. Her husband was away when the incident took place.

Her husband owns four acres of agriculture land. She borrowed some amount from her father Anjilaiah for crop investments, purchasing pesticides and drilling borewells etc. But the couple incurred huge losses due to low yield and poor marketing opportunities.

The bodies were later shifted to Parigi Government Hospital for autopsy. Based on a complaint lodged by her brother, a case of suspicious death was registered. An investigation is on.
