Newborn thrown into dustbin

Siddipet: In a ghastly and heart-rending incident, Boddu Rajavva (42) who delivered a girl ‘illegitimately’ threw it in a dustbin near Khadarpur on Sunday. The baby died. The body was eaten by dogs and pigs.

Local residents who noticed the body being eaten by stray animals reported to police. After an inquiry, they took Rajavva into custody. Following the death of her husband 11 years ago, she has been living with her 12-year-old daughter. Fearing public ridicule, she threw away the girl. People were shocked by her attitude. Expressing shock, representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham, said “In the State hatred towards the girl child is increasing. Children are being subjected to rapes, tourture and abuse. Neither the government nor officials are having a plan or intent to curb violence against the girl child. Lack of planning is resulting in infringement on child rights.”

Achyuta Rao, sangham president, demanded a special mechanism, including courts, to check crimes against children.
