Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said that late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi strove hard to keep Andhra Pradesh united at any cost. After the 1969 and 1972 separatist agitations, she was convinced that the best and everlasting solution was to keep the State united.

He was interacting with media persons after paying rich tributes to Indira Gandhi on her 96th birth anniversary. He garlanded her statue at Necklace Road.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Union Ministers Sarvey Satyanarayana, PCC President Botcha Satyanarayana, Minister Danam Nagender, Deputy Mayor Raj Kumar, former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and several corporators of HMDA.

Interestingly, Minister Sarvey Satyanarayana contradicted statement of the Chief Minister, saying that carving of the T State was now a reality. He even indicated that he was ready to don the mantle of Chief Minister if AICC president Sonia Gandhi “orders” him to do so. “Personally, I am not for it. There are many senior leaders like S Jaipal Reddy, K Jana Reddy and others,” he said.

Tributes to Indira Gandhi were also paid at Gandhi Bhavan where Botcha Satyanarayana, Sarve Satyanarayana, Minister Danam Nagender and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao were present.

Speaking to media, Botcha said that he had been told by the party leadership that the T Draft Bill would be referred to the Assembly during the first week of December.

Hanumantha Rao criticised the Chief Minister for batting for united Andhra Pradesh. He said Kiran should have spoken about it before the high command had taken a decision.
