Hyderabad: The CPI on Wednesday demanded CB CID investigation into the incident in which three fishermen were killed near Kolleru Lake.
Speaking to media, the CPI state secretary K Narayana demanded that the government should also put a check on the fish mafia which has destroyed the ecology of the fresh water that is visited by many migratory birds from faraway places like Siberia. Narayana said, “The mafia is not only involved in fishing but also controlling the fish pond business.” The CPI leader alleged that the mafia was making illegal money to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore each year and all political parties, other than CPI, had yielded to this powerful mafia during the last few years. All the lands in villages at Kolleru were being given on lease to businessmen controlling fish ponds, he said.
He opined that the government should control the mafia otherwise more such incidents would take place.
