Hyderabad: Chief Minister and other Seemandhra political leaders’ claims about the geographical location of Bhadrachalam and Munagala for inclusion in Seemandhra region were countered by people’s representatives here on Wednesday.
Addressing the media at Somjiguda Press Club, MLC Chukka Ramaiah said that when States were reorganised districts were also reorganised. Some villages of Telangana were included in Andhra region and vice versa. As part of the reorganisation, he said that some villages in Khammam district were included in Krishna district, when Bhadrachalam was included in Khammam district of Telangana. Similarly, he said that some villages in Nalgonda district were also included in Krishna district.
Observing that the Centre had taken the decision to create Telangana with all the 10 districts, without any changes to them, he asked the Seemandhra political leadership not to create unnecessary conflicts. MLC Dilip Kumar questioned how could the Chief Minister sanction Rs 3,000 crore for Chittoor water projects, completely neglecting important projects like Sriramsagar, Alimineti Madhava Reddy project, Karimnagar drinking water project and several other projects in Telangana region.
He condemned the Chief Minister’s adamant style of carrying out Pulichintala project, which already displaced Adivasis from Nagarjunasagar project, without even considering the popular opinion.
He made it clear that law and order and revenue of Hyderabad couldn’t be made common between the two States after demerger and warned that the people of Telangana would not let it happen.
Prof Laxman said that Bhadrachalam was brought under Khammam district because of administrative convenience, as the Adivasis had to travel more than 300 km to the district head quarters before it was brought under Khammam district, which was reduced to 60-70 km after including it in Khammam.
He said that reorganisation of States had happened in the past, based on administrative convenience and the convenience of the people, which should not be ignored.
