Hyderabad: The eight-member central team, that visited seven districts hit by cyclone Phailin and heavy rain that lashed subsequently, asked the State government to send revised reports on crop loss and property damage by November 25, 2013.

The team led by Shambhu Singh, Joint Secretary Home affairs, met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other higher officials in the Secretariat on Thursday, and shared its observations on the crop loss.

The team visited Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Guntur, Prakasam, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts and appraised the crops loss. According to the team members, the loss of the crops and property was extensive as well as unprecedented in Nalgonda district.

Reviewing the crop loss with the central team, Chief Minister requested the Government of India to release an amount of Rs 2,145 crore as central assistance including Rs 1,145 crore pertaining to arrears as assured by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He also asked to enhance the input subsidy from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 per hectare as the State government was already distributing Rs 10,000 per hectare to the farmers.

He raised the issue of enhancing compensation of Rs 150 to Rs 500 per each damaged coconut tree in the recent Phailin cyclone and requested the Centre for necessary changes in the crop Insurance for maximum benefit to the farmer.

“State government has already distributed Rs 5,000 crore to the farmers who lost their crops, but we received 25 per cent of Central assistance,” Kiran informed the team members. Later, speaking to the media persons, Minister for Revenue N Raghuveera Reddy said that crop loss and property damage due to the rains and cyclone was estimated at Rs 7,000 crore and the report would be sent to the Centre by November 25.
Chief Secretary P K Mohanty and Disaster Management Commissioner C Parthasarathy were among those attended the meeting.
The team included K Ram Varma, Secretary Rural Development, A Chandrasekhar, Planning commission official, R P Singh, Joint Director, Directorate of Pulses, V K Batla, Assistant advisor, Drinking Water and Sanitation, K Krishna Prasad, Superintending Engineer, Transport and Highways, M Ramesh Kumar, SE, Central Water Commission and P G S Rao, Joint Director Department of Finance met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other higher officials.
