The CPI has demanded an all-party meeting to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Helen.
CPI state secretary K Narayana demanded that the government provide ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed in cyclone and to provide monetary relief for those whose houses were damaged.
He also called upon the government to help farmers who lost their crop and sanction interest-free loans, besides compensation for the crop damage.
In a separate press release, the All India Rythu Coolie Sangham (AIKMS), affiliated to CPM, demanded an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh and compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre of paddy crop and Rs 25,000 per acre for cotton and waiving off bank loans.
