Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy successfully completes three years in office on Monday.
Leading the Congress government for three long years at a time when the State has been going through a most turbulent phase is considered to be an achievement itself. Even though, power came to him as a windfall, he could withstand every test.
Though he started his innings more on the lines of his two predecessors who seldom openly opposed the demand for bifurcation of the State, Kiran emerged as one of the strongest of integrationists, is opposing tooth and nail the decision of even the party high command on the Telangana issue.
By all means, Kiran is set to go down in history as the last Chief Minister of the United Andhra Pradesh. He was made the Chief Minister of the state on November 25, 2010.
Ever since he assumed office, the demand for separate Telangana became more and more pronounced, and the movement for and against the separate Telangana State has left the administration paralysed.
The Chief Minister enjoys the support of only a handful of hardcore faithfuls, while the majority - both within and outside his party – oppose his moves.
During his term, he launched a good number of welfare measures and made every effort to have a mark of his own on the administration.
His schemes that include the Bangaru Talli scheme are, however, yet to get the desired mileage for him and his government.
