Hyderabad: The Punjagutta police on Monday claimed to have solved a theft case and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh.


The two accused, Balavath Bhaskar Naik, 22, a car driver, and Laxminarayan Kumawath, 23, a money lender, both residents of Balanagar were arrested based on a complaint lodged by Lingala Purushotham Goud.


According to police, Bhaskar was working as a driver with the complainant for the past one month. On November 22, the relatives of Purushottam had come to attend a function at Park Hotel in the city. So Purushottam asked his driver to drop his relatives at Park Hotel. The relatives, while going for the function asked Bhaskar to look after the luggage in the car. Seeing the opportunity, Bhaskar opened up and searched the luggage. On finding a boxes containing gold jewellery, he took a box and immediately fled away from there. Later, he mortgaged the gold jewellery with Laxminarayan. Police arrested the money lender for taking valuable gold items without any verification of the ownership.
