Hyderabad: Opposing the government’s attempts to push forward different kinds of educational bills in Parliament, which would open floodgates to foreign universities, and demolish the UGC set-up, AISF (All India Students Federation) will chalk out its strategy in its 28th national conference to be held from November 28 to 30 in the city.

Speaking to media persons, federation’s national president Paramjeet Dhabhan said that the AISF would continue to fight against the educational policies being adopted by the UPA-II at the Centre and the State governments, which had completely failed to implement Right to Education in its letter and spirit.

Referring to the Foreign Universities Bill, which may be passed before General Elections, he said that all that mattered to the foreign universities was making business in the name of education.

“Those who are thinking of pursuing this educational policy have their own interests. We shall be opposing it to the hilt and pass a resolution in the meeting against this commercialisation of education,” he said. Amongst several other bills related to education, the CPI- affiliated student wing is opposing Foreign Educational Institutions Bill, National Commission for High Education and Research (NCHER) and Educational Tribunal Bill. According to the leaders, NCHER will completely demolish the UGC setup. “There are certain hidden bills, which did not come to public eye. Given the influence enjoyed by USA in India, even those are likely to be passed,” feels general secretary Abhay Taksal.

Amongst other demands was implementation of Lyngdoh Commission’s recommendations, which asked the government to conduct elections in educational institutions. The conference will be held at Ravindranath Tagore Auditorium, and will be inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor OU Prof S Satyanarayana at 11 am on November 28. Former MP Aziz Pasha will deliver the welcome address.
