Kadapa: Following a free-for-all allegedly involving the followers of Minister Mohd. Amhedullah’s son and Left activists at ‘Raccha Banda’ here on Tuesday, police made a lathi-charge on the activists injuring 15 including three women activists swooned.

The police used lathis after the Left activists stopped Amhedullah and officials at the programme at the Municipal Stadium. The CPI activists took out a rally from Nehru Park to the stadium, where the CPI(M) workers joined them. The Left activists encountered stiff resistance from the police while trying to make a forcible entry, leading to the lathi-charge on the CPI activists. Three women fell unconscious. The followers Ahmedullah’s son joined the fray and had a heated arguments with the Left workers and exchanged blows. They attacked the activists, who insisted that the programme be taken up only after the issues raised earlier were settled.

The police whisked away the Minister’s son and his followers to safety. They arrested the CPI and CPI(M) activists. Eshwaraiah, CPI district secretary, fell down during the incident.

Later talking to the media, the CPI and CPI(M) leaders questioned holding of ‘Raccha Banda’ after ignoring people’s problems for long and alleged that the administration was ‘cheating’ the people by holding the programme without settling issues raised earlier.
