Hyderabad: In a move to encourage solar power consumption by the people, the Camp Office of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has installed a solar photovoltaic system.

Inaugurating the system at Camp Office on Tuesday, Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the APTransco to speed up the efforts for implementation of the AP State Solar Policy-2012, which was announced recently.

He complimented the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NEDCAP) for its various new initiatives. The officials informed that NEDCAP installed 25 MW capacity units in captive mode and also on third-party basis under the Solar Power Policy. Minister for Labour Danam Nagender, Minister for Marketing Mukhesh Goud, Principal Secretary (CMO) Ajeya Kallam, NEDCAP Managing Director M Kamalakara Babu and APTransco CMD-in-charge Mahindra were among those who attended the programme.

The solar system would help save about 50 per cent of the power bill, said the Camp Office. The total load of Camp Office is about 60 KW, excluding air-condition systems. The newly installed power system will work from 9 am to 5 pm on direct solar, and from 5 pm to 9 pm on the battery charged by the solar energy and grid power.

The solar system would supply nearly 40 KW against 60 KW power needs of Camp Office.
