Hyderabad: The state government will hike the price of palmolien oil supplied through the public distribution system (PDS) outlets to the ration card holders, according to the Minister for Finance Anam Ramnarayan Reddy on Thursday.

Speaking to mediamen, he said that the government was forced to consider the hike as the Central government had stopped paying its share of the subsidy component on it as part of its import policy. As a result, the palmolien oil supply to the ration card holders in the State had been costing the State exchequer Rs 28 crore per month additionally.

The State had been supplying palmolein oil at Rs 39 per litre while the market price was around Rs 62. He said that the issue was discussed at a meeting held with the Minister for Civil Supplies D Sridhar Babu and principal secretaries of finance and civil supplies departments on the day. The meeting decided to present a report to the Chief Minister thus enabling the government to take decision on the hike. The meeting discussed nine issues including the move to increase the commission to the dealers of fair price shops and enhancing transport charges to kerosene dealers.

He said that the commission of fair price shop dealers has been fixed 11 years back and transport charges to kerosene nine years ago. “Fuel charges were increased several times for the last 10 years and the dealers have been insisting the government to increase the commission and kerosene transport charges,” he said. Minister for Civil Supplies D Sridhar Babu said that the government planned to computerise the whole system in public distribution and civil supplies corporation for the transparency in the system. He said that the officials submitted a report on the project, which would be sent to Chief Minister.

When asked about the problems of the LPG customers in getting subsidy in the light of Supreme Court’s verdict on Aadhaar, he said that the government would convene a meeting with the officials of gas companies and civil supplies officials to resolve the issue.
