ESL Narasimhan inaugurates two-day ‘DNA 2013-The 5th International Conference on Emerging Trends in Applied Biology, Biomedicine and Bioforensics’ at UoH

Hyderabad: AP State Governor ESL Narasimhan called on the Indian scientific community to come up with a onetime unique identification system in the country that would have all the database of an individual including DNA profiling. He expressed concern that thousands of crores of rupees was being spent on one or the other unique ID cards, whenever a new scientific invention was made. This, he said, in reference to the most modern unique identity database system being used in some countries, while speaking at the inauguration of DNA 2013- ‘The 5th International Conference on Emerging Trends in Applied Biology, Biomedicine and Bioforensics’ at Central University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Saturday.

The conference is jointly being organised by the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratories (APFSL), BioAxis DNA Research Centre and AIMSCS, of UoH. While acknowledging the credential achievements of the Indian scientists and researchers that brought appreciation to the country globally, Narasimhan said that the real accomplishment of such research and study would be only when its benefits reach to the people who need it most. Presently our country needs strong scientific support that could check on anti-social element and help maintain peace.

Director General of Police B Prasad Rao, who is also a physics scientist, underlined the achievements in Applied Biology, DNA recombinant technology and medicine that were helping in improving human life. “The science has grown to an extent where the specific medicines administered reaches the desired area in the body and starts working,” he said.
