An old man appears suddenly and questions his high-profile security

Hyderabad: The usually vocal and vociferous Governor ESL Narashiman on Saturday was left speechless, for a while, when an old man, out of blue, came in and questioned him about his high profile security, media coverage and VIP treatment. The incident happened outside an auditorium of University of Hyderabad where Narasimhan was invited as a chief guest to inaugurate a two-day international conference – DNA 2013.

Even as a large contingent of police personnel, over 200, were deployed right from entrance gate of the varsity to the CR Rao AIMSC auditorium, and as the Governor was leaving the venue with all the dignitaries present, including DGP Prasada Rao, an old man apparently in his 80s, approached him and asked, “Sir, there are at least 200 police men over here including media people, just for you. Don’t you think lakhs of money spent on such arrangement is a waste of money, which could have been rather spent on something more useful?” The sudden appearance of an old man and the unexpected question left Governor speechless for a while and others were left wondering.

However, later Narashimhan tried to explain to the old man that most of the security force out there was local police and they were not his guards. “I have been given only eight guards by the constitution which I cannot avoid,” said Narashimhan. Meanwhile, Dr Saraswat who was next to the Governor intervened and cut off the conversation. When the Hans India correspondent approached the old man, he identified himself as Vijay Kumar. But, he refused to speak further.
