24x7 Ops at Vizag Airport From January 1, Visakhapatnam Airport . He said that the Navy was looking at strengthening operations on the east coast for which naval air stations were being prepared at Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Turicorin and Chennai.
Visakhapatnam: Round-the-clock operations will begin at Visakhapatnam airport on the New Year Day.
This was announced by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, at a media conference at the naval base here on Tuesday.
He said that the Navy was looking at strengthening operations on the east coast for which naval air stations were being prepared at Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Turicorin and Chennai.
The airstrip at Badangi near Bobbili of Vizianagaram district, which was used during the World War II, was also being looked at and the process of acquiring it and developing it as an alternative airfield would be considered.
Vice Admiral Anil Chopra also disclosed that an amphibian warfare training school would be set up at Kakinada. Also, speed boats would be kept at jetty along with Coast Guard at Kakinada.
On the Navy Day on Wednesday, operational display would be held at the RK Beach here at 3.45 pm.
Governor E S L Narasim han was scheduled to attend the programme, but his visit was cancelled.
