Medak: District Collector Smita Sabharwal on Tuesday warned of stringent action against officials who neglected their duty. If necessary, stern action would be taken against them, she said here while addressing a review meeting.
The collector reviewed the functioning of Education, Health, Sanitation and Revenue departments on Tuesday. While noting with satisfaction the staff performance, she expressed concern about the falling educational standards in the district as revealed by failure of many schools to achieve good results.
Sabharwal wanted teachers to change their style of working so as to achieve better performances by students. She asked headmasters to adapt improved teaching practices to ensure that the district secured good place in the State in SSC exams next year.
The collector expressed dissatisfaction over the working of government hospitals. She said there were complaints that the government doctors were not regularly attending duty. She advised them and the staff of hospitals to change their working style. She wanted the doctors to reside in their places of work and strive for improving the number of delivery cases in the government hospitals. She called for special attention on the health aspects of women and children.
Sabharwal advised the Revenue staff to take steps for protecting the government lands. She directed the staff to take stringent against people who encroached the government lands. While calling upon the staff of all the staff of the government departments to be answerable to the people, the collector exhorted them to act on representations received during the recent phase of ‘Rachabanda’. The staff, she said, should ensure regular payment of pensions to the aged, widows and disabled persons. They should get the land distribution schedule ready and undertake a periodic review of the implementation of welfare schemes.
Joint Collector Sharath, officials of various departments including Agriculture, DEO, tahsildars, headmasters, among others, attended the review meeting.
