Political parties gear up to finetune strategies

Hyderabad: The crucial and perhaps the last Session of the State Legislative Assembly and Council in Andhra Pradesh will meet from December 12.

A formal notification summoning the two Legislature bodies was issued by the Governor ESL Narasimhan on Sunday. According to the notification both the houses will commence their sitting from 10 am.

Though the agenda for the Session and the time schedule would be finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) chaired by the Speaker N Manohar on the first day of the Session, the political parties are busy preparing strategies and are in the process of identifying the issues they would like to raise during the Session. It remains to be seen if the government would take up the draft T bill first putting aside all other business or not. The draft T Bill is expected to be sent to the state Assembly by Tuesday.

While the Seemandhra Congress leaders want that the Bill should be discussed at length and all those who want to speak on it should be given time. The opposition TDP is a divided house. Party president N Chandrababu Naidu is said to be taking expert legal opinion so that he can effectively point out the loopholes and demand that the Bill be not passed unless proper constitutional procedures were followed and equal justice was done to both the regions.

The YSR Congress Party, which is spearheading the united Andhra movement, would take on the centre against its unilateral decision. Party honorary President YS Vijayamma would raise the impact of the state division on the development of Telugu people.

The TRS party has already prepared a strategy to counter the political parties’ arguments against the bifurcation of state and expose the double standards adopted by the parties on the contentious issue.

The CPM, which has been opposing bifurcation and CPI, fighting for the cause of Telangana statehood, would make strong arguments in support of their stand on the state division.
