Kin of Volvo bus victims move Lokayukta

Hyderabad: The Mahabubnagar Bus Fire Accident Victims Joint Action Committee (MBFAV - JAC) on Monday moved the Lokayukta against the RTA Commissioner, DSP and the SHO of Kothakota, for their alleged misuse of authority and negligence in the discharge of their legitimate duties in accordance and regulations prescribed by the government.

D Sudhakar, the JAC coordinator, in his complaint before Lokayukta chairman B Subhashan Reddy, alleged that the SHO of Kothakota fabricated the collected agreement documents of the bus owners so that the highly influential owners could escape from being punished.

The petition said that the accident took place due to rash and negligence of the driver and the bus was overloaded above the stipulated figure set by RTA guidelines. In spite of safety lapses in the buses, the transport authorities did not act according to Motor Vehicle Act. The complaint further sought direction to initiate criminal action against DSP and SHO of Kothakota and the owners of the vehicles so that justice could be rendered to those who died in the bus mishap and to their families.
