Hyderabad: TDP president on Saturday gave clear indications that the party will forge an electoral alliance with the BJP in the ensuing general polls. A formal announcement is likely by January. This indication came from Naidu after a one on one meeting he had with the top BJP leaders including prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Bhopal on Saturday.
Naidu was in Bhopal to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan for the third consecutive term. Naidu shared the dais with BJP national president Rajnath Singh and senior leaders like L K Advani, Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj, Murali Manohar Joshi and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. While on the stage, BJP leaders ensured that Naidu got prominence. When Modi arrived on stage, Naidu was among the first leaders whom Modi greeted. Later, while on stage, Naidu was given the chair adjacent to Modi.

Apart from exchanging pleasantries with all the top BJP leaders, Naidu spent nearly one hour with Modi at a guest house and discussed the poll prospects if the two parties entered into an alliance. They also discussed the possibility of bifurcation of state before the general elections, and the manner in which the Centre was going ahead in violation of constitutional provisions and conventions.
The statement made by Rajnath Singh on Friday in New Delhi that the BJP would give much importance to the Seemandhra people’s demands as it extended support to the Telangana cause was a precursor to what happened in Bhopal on Saturday, TDP leaders said.
Among those who interacted with Naidu were Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, her younger sister and MLA Yashodhara Raje and their grand aunt and newly elected MLA Maya Singh.
However, AP state BJP president G Kishan Reddy feels that alliance with TDP may not benefit the party in T region. He feels that though TDP had a strong cadre, it may not get converted into votes. Instead, it would be better if BJP and TDP enter into an alliance in Seemandhra region, he said.
