Warangal: Tier-II cities in the State have good potential for growth in information technology and outsourcing services, said Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Vice President and Regional Head V Rajanna.
Information technology firms offering outsourcing services in Warangal district have registered IT exports business worth Rs 2.8 crore during 2012- 13, he informed. This is a good sign for the future growth of IT industry in the district, he predicted. Rajanna was here to attend the board of governors meeting at Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science (KITS) on Saturday.
Speaking to press persons on the occasion, he said Warangal district has got immense potential for IT industry because of its proximity to the State capital. Warangal was among the Tier II cities identified by the government and IT firms to set up IT industries.
There should be sufficient infrastructure fulfilling requirements of the industry players and once infrastructure grows it would attract the industry majors, he pointed out. The advantage needs to be made use of to promote IT industry in Warangal, he said. A Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) tower was coming up in Warangal and following a 10-point action plan recommended by IT and ITES Industry Association of AP.
The State government gave a consent to provide incentives like one year free internet connection and six months rental free accommodation to the units newly set up in Warangal and such measures would boost the industry, he added. In Andhra Pradesh, IT Industry has shown a growth of 27 per cent for the year 2012-13. The TCS has been collaborating with the local engineering colleges like KITS and National Institute of Technology (NIT) on faculty development programme and imparting training to students in latest IT inventions, Rajanna said.
