Hyderabad: Visakhapatnam district began registering lowest minimum temperatures from Sunday in the present winter season with Lambasingi recorded lowest minimum.

Chintapalli recorded five degrees Celsius in the wee hours of Sunday, said officials of Regional Agriculture Research Centre. Similarly, Lambasingi near Chintapalli where there is no specific equipment to record temperatures was also said to have experienced lowest temperature of two degrees Celsius which is the lowest in the season so far. Normally, temperatures in agency would be between nine and ten degrees Celsius during the December and the lowest temperature of four degrees C was recorded on January 19, 2013. Officials said that the situation would worsen further in January 2014 as the entire Visakha agency has been recording temperatures below 10 degrees for the last one week and almost all tribal villages are in grip of cold wave. Meanwhile, Hyderabad recorded a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius on Saturday marking the lowest so far this season.

Meteorologists predicted that the mercury will dip over the next few days, and could fall to 8 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that in a couple of days the mercury would dip to 10 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad. Meteorologists said the temperature plummeted due to the northeasterly winds blowing over the region.
