Kurnool: Students of the Model Junior College, here , wrote their half-yearly examinations squatting on the road, as part of the intensified agitation in support of Samaikyandhra and to show what would be their fate if the State was divided.

The agitation has been intensified in the Seemandhra region after the State Re-organisation Bill was tabled in the Assembly. Members of the Kurnool District Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee(JAC) tore copies of the Bill to register their protest against the State’s division.

Addressing the students, Lecturers’ JAC leader Chennayya claimed that there was a question mark over the fate of the Samaikyandhra people because of the lack of commitment among the ‘selfish’ Seemandhra politicians.

He accused MPs of the region of letting down people after promising to block the Telangana formation in New Delhi, as also the MLAs, who made their followers believe they would oppose the Bill in the House.

Another leader, Somasekhar, alleged that the State division was against the constitution, the spirit people’s unity and their sentiments. He observed that Monday’s happenings in the Assembly were ‘humiliating’ for all.

He faulted tabling of the Bill by Speaker Nadendla Manohar ‘unilaterally’ in the absence of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu, describing the Chair as a ‘stooge of the Centre’.

Somasekhar claimed that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had introduced Article 371 D only with the objective of preventing the State’s division. He wanted the Seemandhra leaders to agitate with a single agenda, even if their parties were different.

The JAC members staged a ‘rasta roko’ at Chennamma Circle. S V Mohan Reddy, YSRCP leader, took part.
