State clears remission to 390 life-convicts

Hyderabad: The State government on Saturday issued a Government Order (GO) granting special remission to 390 life-convicted prisoners in various jails in the state. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy cleared the file and the prisoners would be released immediately after receiving the orders by jail authorities.

The remission was considered on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, but the release was delayed because of the procedures involved. A Standing Committee, after scrutinising cases of each prisoner, recommended to the government to sanction remission to 390 life-convicted prisoners. The prisoners after having either served seven years, 10 years, or at the most 14 years will now come out after having either served seven, 10, or at the most 14 years.

According to official sources, the prisons department went by the government guidelines issued in the GO and made a list of 390 life-convicts who could be released.
