Hyderabad: The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), which celebrates its Foundation Day on December 23, has won world-wide recognition for its working under a single management.

General Manager (Coordination) S Chandrasekhar said at a discussion organised by HMTV here on Sunday. K Virahat Ali, HMTV State Chief News Coordinator, was the moderator. The GM underlined the importance of SCCL, as the State’s 75 per cent power coal-based.

He said the company was undergoing modernization in tune with the changing times. It was taking good care of workers, giving priority to their safety and a share in the profits.

SCCL workers union president S Venkateshwarlu, Telangana SCCL workers union chief K Mallaiah and workers D Srinivas, P Mallesh, G Kumarswarmy, K Rajaiah, G Mallayya, A Narsing Rao took part. Songs on SCCL, its history, importance and working were rendered by Madhupriya.

Venkateshwarlu expressed anguish that deployment of workers in SCCL was dwindling. There were more officials and increasing use of machinery. As many as 5,685 workers were killed so far, despite claims to the contrary by the management. There was no threat to SCCL as there were stocks of 21,121 mt to last over 100 years.

Mallaiah said SCCL workers had achieved financial stability and job safety through prolonged struggles. He criticized the VRS scheme.

Virahat Ali praised both the SCCL management and workers for taking it forward with the slogan of ‘one family, one goal and one objective’ while wishing that it makes greater strides. He attributed the company’s success in achieving higher production to the laudable efforts of workmen, even while cutting the production cost and taking austerity measures.
