Nellore: Several politicians, including senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, philanthropists and social organisations have come forward with offers of assistance to anti-arrack crusader Dubagunta Rosamma who is struck by poverty and ailment. The offers are being made after press reports appeared about her plight, not being able to get treatment in view of poverty.

While Naidu handed over Rs 50,000 to her, NTR Seva Trust offered improved treatment, as announced by Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the party’s district leaders said.

BJP spokesperson Sannapureddy Suresh Reddy and district leader Anjaneya Reddy shifted Rosamma to the Nellore Hospital here and got her treated. Suresh Reddy said on Tuesday that Venkaiah Naidu had handed over the amount to her. He described as ‘unfortunate’ the State government’s indifference to provide medical care to her, and demanded it extend financial assistance to Rosamma, whose family was in dire straits.

Anjaneya Reddy said Venkaiah Naidu had given assistance, as he wished her speedy recovery. The party leaders were prepared to bear the expenditure till the spirited woman got well. He wanted the government to come to Rosamma’s rescue keeping in view her service to people. Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) leader Dr Vijaykumar, who participated in the anti-arrack agitation led by Rosamma, said JVV would constitute a committee in her name.

The amount received by the committee would be handed over to her family. The JVV would strive to ensure that the family was taken proper care of, by even holding discussion with government officials. He said
