Hyderabad: Claiming that the country achieved development under the NDA rule, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national leader M Venkaiah Naidu described the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s regime as ‘Suparipalana’ (Good Governance).

Speaking at the Vajpayee’s 89th birthday celebrations at the State BJP office here, he said that Vajpayee brought development to the nation, while the Congress government brought corruption.

“The former Prime Minister improved relations with the neighbouring countries besides controlling the price rise, inflation in the country. Moreover, the three new States were formed amid celebrations and without opposition under the NDA regime. We need a government, which will reduce the differences amongst the people,” he explained. Venkaiah Naidu recalled how Atal Bihari Vajpayee brought about change in the lives of the common people by implementing several welfare schemes.

“It was time when the super power USA was made to realize power of India, which tested its first nuclear technology. While Sardar Patel unified the country, Vajpayee brought good governance,” he added. Critical of the TRS leadership suggesting the BJP, Venkaiah Naidu stated that they should do their own business rather than giving suggestions to a national party. The BJP senior leader felt that the leaders, who would be joining the Congress Party in the near future, should not give free suggestions.

Referring to the defeat of Congress in Assembly polls of four key States, he said that people were eagerly waiting for the government, which would be non-corrupt and focus on developmental issues. This was the worst defeat the Congress faced after ‘emergency’, he added.

Pointing out that the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was following the footsteps of Vajpayee, the BJP National leader described him as the only ‘ray of light’ for the nation. He said the people are being attracted to the new leader and the youth are eagerly waiting to see how he would steer the nation out of slumber.
