Hyderabad: Internal bickering over the allotment of party ticket for Penamuluru Assembly constituency in Krishna district came to light when two groups in TDP clashed with each other at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Thursday.

Soon after the party president, N Chandrababu Naidu, held constituency-level review meeting in the morning, the supporters of party senior leader and ticket aspirant B Prasad allegedly attacked the supporters of another aspirant Y B Rajendra Prasad.

When the two leaders indulged in heated arguments and tempers ran high, D Uma Maheshwara Rao, the Krishna district TDP president, and T Janardhan, the party state secretary, intervened and pacified the two groups.

Angered over the incident, Naidu cancelled the second round of meeting that was scheduled for the evening to finalise the candidate for the Assembly constituency.

Competition for the party ticket intensified amid strong speculation that Secondary Education Minister K Pardhasaradhi was planning to switch loyalty to TDP and contest from Penamuluru in the next general elections. Rajendraprasad, a former MLC, is eager to fight the Assembly election as he has strengthened his base there. The other aspirant Prasad is also a strong leader in the constituency.
