Hyderabad: The war of legacy seems to be climaxing within the Telugu Desam Party.

Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who ignored his brother-in-law Nandamuri Harikrishna by not inviting him for the Praja Garjana in Tirupati, staked a claim to the party founder N T Rama Rao’s legacy.

During his speech at the Prajagarjana, Naidu drew parallel between him and NTR and claimed that while NTR fought for Telugu pride, he took forward the issue and strove to instill self-confidence among the Telugus. Showering praises on NTR, Naidu said he had learnt discipline, hard work and several good values from the legendary film star.

Harikrishna who has been on a collision course with Naidu over Telugu Desam’s support to bifurcation of the State and had resigned from Rajya Sabha in protest, told media persons here that the party had failed to invite him for the public meeting at Tirupati.

"I have not got any invitation for the Praja Garjana public meetings of the party. Perhaps, I am being ignored by the party leadership because of my Samaikyandhra stance," he fumed.

Harikrishna has been unhappy with Naidu for the past few months because Naidu has been preferring son Lokesh over NTR scions. They are upset that Lokesh is being projected as the heir-apparent.

When asked about the differences with Harikrishna, Naidu recently told The Hans India that when it came to party affairs, relationships would not count. “Everyone will have to fall in line with the party’s decision whatever the issue is. That has been the party’s strong point, which is one of the reasons why TDP remains a strong political force,” he had said. It may be recalled that Harikrishna had contemplated to take up a parallel bus yatra in Seemandhra region when Naidu announced his decision to launch his Atma Gourava Yatra soon after the CWC decision. However, he withdrew on the advice of his brother N Balakrishna.

He, however, wrote an open letter criticising the double standards of Naidu.

Venting his ire, Harikrishna also fired a salvo at Naidu a day after the latter attended the swearing-in ceremony of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and hobnobbed with the top brass of BJP in Bhopal.
