Dy Speaker briefs Pranab on stalemate in Assembly

Hyderabad: As the State Assembly session is to resume on January 3, Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday called on President Pranab Mukherjee to discuss the draft Telangana Bill. At the 25-minute meeting, the President is understood to have asked Bhatti Vikramarka about the stalemate in the Assembly and how he and the Speaker were planning to complete the process of discussion on the T Bill and return it within the stipulated time frame.

Though the Deputy Speaker refused to divulge what transpired during the meeting, it was learnt that the President gave him certain tips that could be followed when the Assembly would meet on January 3. This meeting assumes significance in the wake of some Seemandhra MLAs claiming that they would not allow the debate to take place.

After his meeting with the President, Bhatti Vikramarka exuded confidence that the President would not agree for extension of time to discuss the T Bill and the special session of Parliament would be held in the first week of February to discuss and pass the Telangana Bill. According to him, the President was very clear in his mind about the Telangana issue. He said he was confident that the separate Telangana State would be carved before the 2014 Elections.
