Hyderabad: The rebel Congress MPs – Vundavalli Arun Kumar, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, G Harsha Kumar, Sabbam Hari and L Rajagopal – on Sunday gave enough hints about the possibility of a new party to be launched after January 23 when the deadline to return the Draft T Bill to the President of India would come to an end.

At a meet-the-press programme here on Sunday, Arun Kumar said, “Wait till January 23 for our road map. Till then all Seemandhra legislators should make their voice heard in the Assembly and oppose the Draft T Bill. Till then we will not speak anything on our future course of action.”

He said even if the Draft T Bill sent to the State Assembly by the President says that there would be no voting, the members should debate on it and start speaking with the opening remarks that they were opposing the bill.

After giving detailed explanation as to why they were opposing the Bill, the MLAs should conclude, saying that they were opposing it. It would be as good as voting against the Bill and would force the President to refer it for legal opinion, Arun Kumar said.

He also said that giving affidavits opposing the Bill was also one of the ways to express their opposition towards bifurcation since the Centre did not follow the procedure of seeking the opinion of the State Assembly prior to sending the T Bill to the Assembly.

Another MP Sabbam Hari and Harsha Kumar said that the Congress high command had kept the Seemandhra leaders in the dark till the last minute even as it consulted other parties. He said they had asked Digvijay Singh many times about the proposed moves to bifurcate as and when they were reported in the media, but every time he denied the reports.

When asked why the Seemandhra leaders could not resign en masse after the CWC decision came, Arun Kumar and Rajagopal said there was a marked change from the situation of 2009 when en masse resignations forced the high command to reverse its decision. The high command adopted a bulldozing attitude.

Hence, they felt that it would be better to revolt against the party and they had succeeded in causing embarrassment to the government by giving notice for no-confidence. The government, afraid of the consequences, saw to it that the motion did not come up before the House, by making some people stall the proceedings. Criticising the stand taken by the YSRCP to stall the proceedings of the Assembly, they appealed to all the Seemandhra leaders to ensure smooth debate and make their voice heard. “Do not waste the opportunity to record your opposition to the Bill,” they added.
