Anantapur: They were united in wedlock seven months back. Tragically, they also remained together even in death on December 28.
Srinivas (28) and Lalita (26) of Dwaraka Nagar died in the fire mishap in the B1 AC bogie of the Bangalore-Nanded Express near Kothacheruvu, in the district. Srinivas was the eldest son of postal employee Chandrasekhar. Lalita, from Tirupati, was the daughter of a retired employee.
The couple was married on May 29 this year. Srinivas and Lalita, software professionals, were staying in Bangalore’s Jayanagar locality. They had originally decided to go by car to Mantralayam from Anantapur, but as providence would have it, they boarded the ill-fated train from Bangalore on Friday at 10.45 pm.
They were to reach Anantapur in an hour’s time. At 11 pm Srinivas telephoned Chandrasekhar ‘we are coming’. Instead, they met with a gory death. The families of Srinivas and Lalita were shocked the next morning after learning about the mishap.
Chandrasekhar and his wife Anasuya broke down saying that the couple had reached heavenly abode.
‘Sadly, their lives perished after seven months of togetherness’.
This horrific accident has caused deep anguish among the family members’. The grieving parents cried in anguish: God, why did you do this? All of us wanted to have your ’darshan’. But, you have separated the couple (Srinivas and Lalita) from us and called them to you’. Neighbours broke into tears after seeing Chadrasekhar and Anasuya weep inconsolably.
Initially, they said, ‘we believed that Srinivas and Lalita were alive. But as their cell phones were found switched off, we became anxious. We waited for three hours at Anantapur railway station. The railway officials broke the news about the train accident at Kothacheruru. We went home, saw on TV the ghastly view of the burnt coach’. The family members said Chandasekhar and Anasuya fainted after going into a shock.
The elderly couple said they could identify the bodies of Srinivas and Lalita at the Victoria Hospital, Bangalore. They deeply moved having had to wait for the DNA test to complete the funeral ceremonies.
Chandrasekhar and Anasuya only saw mounds of flesh and heard agonized cries of the victims’ relatives, who were anxious to know the whereabouts of their dear ones. After the DNA officials confirmed the death of Srinivas and Lalita, which only added to their agony.
