Hyderabad: Yet another Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the AP High Court against the Rs 7,390-crore drinking water supply project at Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s native Chittoor district.

Earlier, TRS MLA T Harish Rao had challenged a GO of October 14, approving Rs 4,300 crore for the execution of the said Rs 7,390-crore drinking water supply project. He had alleged that there was no Cabinet approval for the scheme as the entire Cabinet was divided on regional lines.

The project, taken up by Infrastructure Corporation of AP, is slated to supply drinking water from the Kandaleru storage dam to Tirupati, Tirumala, Chittoor, Madanapalle, Palamaner and Punganur towns and scores of other villages.

The present petitioner, Federation of Farmers Association of Nellore district, contended that the government, in a hurry to implement the project, had ignored the fact that altitude of Kandaleru reservoir is at 55 mtrs above sea level (asl) and the Chittoor district is at 305 mtrs asl.

The federation said that the supply of water from Kandaleru reservoir to the villages under the project would be a herculean task involving construction of several pump houses with issues including spending huge amounts on electricity.
