Press political parties to come under RTI ambit: CIC, Madabhushi Sridhar. He suggested that the instead of escaping from the purview of RTI those coming under its domain should opt for voluntary disclosures under section 4 (1) (b) of the Act.
Warangal: Public movement against the political parties that are escaping from ambit of Right to Information Act is the need of the hour, asserted Central Information Commissioner (CIC) Madabhushi Sridhar
He suggested that the instead of escaping from the purview of RTI those coming under its domain should opt for voluntary disclosures under section 4 (1) (b) of the Act. He said political parties and public authorities were trying to bring out a law to get exemption from the RTI.
“It becomes the duty of all the people to oppose such efforts” he said addressing a gathering of academicians, judges, public prosecutors, district revenue and police officials, and child welfare officers.
Sridhar was on a maiden visit to Warangal town after assuming the charge as the CIC. He participated in a workshop on ‘The rights of children’ organised at the Kakatiya University senate hall on Saturday by the Warangal Legal Services Authority. He stated that the RTI Act only helps the people to seek the information, but it would in any way resolve their grievances. Yet the public authorities were violating the provisions of the RTI Act he said and urging public institutions to be proactive in sharing and disclosing information sought by applicants.
Sridhar expressed concern over the fact that majority of people in the country were not yet aware of the RTI Act and its usage. He stressed on the need to popularise the RTI so that the public could make use of it extensively for a better and transparent society. Earlier, Sridhar was felicitated by the staff and students of Kakatiya University College of Law. KU Vice Chancellor Prof. B Venkata Rantam, Law College principal T Vijay Chandar, Controller of Exams MV Ranga Rao and others were present. ‘Bhoomi Hakkulu-150 Chikkulu’ a book penned by Rural Development Institute state director M Sunil Kumar was released on the occasion. The book consist of questions related to land disputes answered by Sridhar and Sunil in a programme telecast on HMTV.
