Hyderabad: The Members of the Legislative Council, who generally do not resort to the kind of protests that are held in the Assembly, on Monday, resorted to dharna in favour of pro and anti-Telangana.
Soon after the Council adjourned for an hour after it assembled on Monday morning following pandemonium on the draft T Bill, MLCs Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Swamy Goud, K Yadava Reddy, Paturi Sudhakar Reddy, Bhanu Prasad, T Bhanu Prasad, Md Mahmood Ali, K Janardhan Reddy, Bhoopal Reddy, Farooq Hussain and S Jagadeeshwar Reddy from Telangana held a dharna near the entrance of the Council.
They had in fact tried to hold a dharna in front the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Assembly premises in the morning but were prevented by the police and security personnel. Following this, they held a dharna near the entrance gate of the Council raising slogans in favour of Telangana.
A little later, Seemandhra members A Rammohan from the TDP, Meka Sheshu Babu, Narayana Reddy, Adireddy Appa Rao and Bhaskara Rama Rao from the YSRCP, sporting black scarfs, took part in the protest and headed towards the place where the T MLCs were staging the dharna. However, security officials intervened and prevented them from going close to T MLCs.
Later, speaking to the media, Sudhakar Reddy said that the members who were opposing the discussion had their own agenda and were not serious about highlighting the people’s problems. He demanded the Chairman to see that the discussion begins in the Council by suspending those who were stalling the House.
