Hyderabad: The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday rejected the demand of the state government to furnish more information on the draft T Bill before it could take it up for discussion.

In a communiqué to the state government, the Home Ministry said there was no need to make any amendments to the draft T Bill. It said the President of India had asked the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and the Legislative Council to discuss the draft T Bill and give its opinion by January 23. A final Bill would be introduced in the Lok Sabha thereafter. It may be recalled that the Seemandhra MLAs have been stalling the proceedings of both Houses in the past four days alleging that the draft Bill had many inconsistencies and that it was silent on several issues.

They wanted the government to furnish more detailed information so that a meaningful debate could take place on the Bill. Following their insistence, the state government wrote to the Union Home Ministry on Saturday for more clarifications.

It now remains to be seen what stand the Seemandhra MLAs would take. When contacted, minister for Legislative Affairs S Sailajanath said that he was not aware of the development. TDP MLA P Keshav said that if it were true, the Seemandhra MLAs would meet in the Assembly premises on Wednesday and review the situation.
