Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam is all set to get Test status in world cricket.

There were ample indications to this, during the visit by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) inspection team, comprising legendary G R Vishwanath, former Hyderabad captain Dr. M V Sridhar and convener of the committee, Ranjib Biswal, who is also IPL chairman, here, on Thursday.

The panel, which inspected facilities, expressed satisfaction and will shortly send its recommendation to the BCCI. Hopefully, the City of Destiny would get its first cricket Test at the earliest, in 2015, as there are no Test scheduled till then. While Vishwanath said everything was in order and that it was up to the BCCI to take the call, Sridhar disclosed that the BCCI had in 2007 suggested that the umpires’ rooms, players’ dressing rooms and media facilities be improved. Accordingly, the Andhra Cricket Association had carried out the suggestions. Now TV channels were telecasting Hindi commentary also on the matches, he pointed out.

“Already Vizag has hosted five One Day Internationals. But the preparation for ODIs and five-day Tests are different, for, Tests have to last longer,” he stated.

Biswal said there would be no change in the IPL schedule, when matches are held between April to June, though the general elections are slated around that time. There would be 60 matches with eight teams participating.

Replying to a question, he said Vizag was one of the centres for IPL matches, but he would not be able to say now which match would be played here.
