Hyderabad: Sharing the intention behind the fourth blood donation camp conducted for the survival of thalassemia patients on Sunday at CAR Headquarters, Petlaburj, City Police Commissioner, Anurag Sharma said, “For any disease prevention is more important than cure, awareness on thalassemia is important in this regard.”

The event presided over by M Shiva Prasad, Joint Commissioner of Police, CAR Headquarters, was organised to mark Sankranti and Milad-Un-Nabi festivals in association with Thalassemia Sickle Society, with the assistance of its Director, Dr Pushpa Devi Jain.

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder affecting the body’s ability to produce hemoglobin and red blood cells. This restricts growth of the patient, damages liver, causes heart failure and leads to death. The person suffering from thalassemia needs regular blood transfusions for survival. Anjani Kumar, Addl Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Amit Garg, Addl Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and B Malla Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Branch Hyderabad contributed to the blood donation camp.

Followed by blood donation camp, the City Police organised a peace rally for promoting harmony among different communities and culture. The peace rally was flagged off by the Commissioner at 10.30 am from CAR Headquarters. Around 2,500 personnel from BSF, RAF, CRPF, APSP, CAR, Civil Police, SAR CPL, SPO and Home Guard together with mounted police and senior officers participated in the peace rally.
