Yashoda Hospital lift crashes; 20 injured

Hyderabad: Twenty persons were injured when an elevator of Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad collapsed from the eighth floor on Monday. The lift came down till second floor and suddenly collapsed. Veena, a native of Kowkur in Ranga Reddy district, and another person are said to be in critical condition after they suffered a hip fracture.

The remaining, suffered leg and hand injuries and were undergoing treatment at the same hospital. According to eye witnesses, the accident took place around 7 pm. They said there were about 22 people in the lift which came down till second floor with great speed, bounced upwards before it collapsed. According to police, the wires are believed to have snapped bringing the elevator crashing down. Preliminary investigation revealed that poor maintenance was the reason for the accident.
