CS writes to Union Home Ministry which would forward it to Prez

Hyderabad: With the deadline for returning the draft Telangana Bill fast approaching, Chief Secretary PK Mohanty on Saturday wrote to the Union Home Ministry to extend the deadline to discuss the draft State Reorganisation Bill 2013 by another four weeks.

It is learnt that the Union Home Ministry has received the letter and has told the Chief Secretary that they would forward it to the President. Chief Secretary met Speaker N Manohar on Saturday evening after the Assembly adjourned for the day and discussed the issue. The government is understood to have sought extension claiming that precious time was lost due to the ruckus in the Assembly till recently.

Meanwhile, the CPI Legislature Party sent a letter to the President on Saturday pleading with him not to extend the deadline. Minister D Sridhar Babu said Telangana MLAs from various parties were also writing to the President urging him not to extend the time limit.

On the other hand, Seemandhra Congress MLAs Gade Venkat Reddy and K Subbarayudu submitted a letter to the Speaker urging him to request the President to send further background information on nine key issues concerning the bifurcation of the State including attorney general's view on contentious issues such as Article 371(D), common capital and keeping administrative powers on the law and order in Hyderabad with Governor.
