Hyderabad: Speculations are rife in Congress circles that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was getting ready to announce the launch of a new political party soon after the present Assembly session concludes on January 23.

The remarks made by Minister Pithani Satyanarayana on Saturday evening gave credence to the speculation. Satyanarayana said that the Congress leaders from Seemandhra as well as the people were eagerly waiting for the emergence of a new party. “Wait and watch what happens,” he said.

The wait and watch policy has been adopted because the government expects that the President may grant some more time to the Assembly to discuss the draft T Bill. If that happens, then Kiran might postpone the announcement by some more time. In case there was no communication by January 23 when the deadline for the debate ends, Kiran who proposes to give a marathon six or eight-hour speech opposing bifurcation of the state, would go on a whirlwind tour of Seemandhra districts and is likely to make the announcement of his intention to launch a new party.

He would choose either Vijayawada or Visakhapatnam for the purpose, sources add. It may be recalled that in the last few days, there has been sudden and hectic activity in the region as hundreds of Bill boards had come up with the slogan of Jai Samaikyandhra. For the past two days, even commercial advertisements are being aired on some of the vernacular television channels.
