Hyderabad: The LPG distribution boys in the city demanded an upward revision of their wages. About 1,000 gas delivery workers attended a meeting organised by the Telangana Cooking Gas Delivery Workers’ Union at VST hall in Baghlingampally here on Sunday.

The meeting was held to persuade the authorities to accept their demand for minimum wage. At present delivery workers get paid Rs 8 per cylinder. The union has put forth a demand for gas agencies to pay Rs 12,500 per month.

The chief guest, Nizamabad MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud, said that he would take up the issue of delivery workers at the Centre. A worker said, “We have no job security and there is no provision for ESI, PF and insurance. Owners of gas agencies remove workers at their will. We demand Rs 5 lakh compensation to family members in case of death of workers in an accident.” TRS Assembly floor leader Etela Rajender, political JAC co-chairman V Srinivas Goud, JAC spokesperson A Dayakar, M Veda Kumar, Telugu Praja Front, vice- president; Palle Ravi Kumar, vice-president, Telangana Journalists Forum; and N Srinivas Goud, president, Telangana Cooking Gas Delivery Workers Union, attended the meeting.
