Kurnool: The game of one-upmanship in the district keeping in view the Samaikyandhra agitation and upcoming elections has become intense with Minor Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh accusing Union Minister Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy of setting fire to the party office over a party ticket issue. In turn, the Union Minister charged Venkatesh with party-hopping for the sake of posts.

It all began at Yemmiganur on Saturday, with Kotla objecting to frequent criticism of the party by Venkatesh. Addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of Neelakanteswara Swamy, he objected to Venkatesh praising another party.

The fiery Union Minister demanded immediate resignation of Venkatesh, for trying to have an alliance with another party. “Those eying the YSRCP should leave the Congress. It would have new faces. None could damage the ruling party,” he thundered.

Kotla objected to Venkatesh laying foundations for several projects, even while commenting that the party won’t win only in Seemandhra, but also elsewhere if the State was divided and that he was getting invites from other parties. Such projects, he remarked, would be re-launched. He threatened to complain to the Speaker to act against Venkatesh.

Venkatesh replied to Kotla allegations, while launching the pulse polio programme at ZP High School in Prakashnagar. He accused Kotla of setting on fire party office when denied ticket and of passing comments on all, fearing loss of deposit.

While advising Kotla to shut up in his own interest, Venkatesh quipped he was committed to leaving the party if the State was divided, saying people’s sentiments were more important.

Refuting the charge of setting fire to the party office, Kotla claimed that it was done by the people who suspected he would not get the LS ticket. It was not his culture to change parties as Venkatesh who, he said, was threatening party activists to retain his post.

“It is not proper for the minister to join hands with the Telugu Desam and criticise the Congress.”

Participating in an awareness programme on lift irrigation schemes, Venkatesh refuted Kotla charge on projects. He claimed that foundations for rural projects were laid here because of the paucity of time. “Normally farmers and ryots organisations perform bhoomi pooja of such projects. It is important that benefits of such projects accrued to people,” he noted.
