Mahabubnagar: Convener of Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Sunday took strong exception to the erection of the statues of Sonia Gandhi throughout Telangana. He wondered as to why the statues were being installed for a leader who was still alive.
Addressing the TDP workers and leaders at the district TDP meeting here on Sunday the former minister came down heavily against the leaders of the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for spreading utter lies and canards against the Telugu Desam Party that it was against the formation of the Telangana. He said that Telugu Desam was never against the formation of Telangana. In fact, the UPA Government conceded to the Telangana demand only after the TDP gave a letter in support of it, he averred.
Dayakar Rao said that though the Seemandhra TDP leaders exerted a lot of pressure on Chandrababu Naidu to withdraw the letter, he did not budge from his stand as he had a responsibility to protect the party in the two regions. He said that the TDP had a presence in both the regions while YSR Congress and TRS were confined to a single region.
The Centre had been delaying the formation of Telangana as TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao failed to merge his party with the Congress, he alleged. He said that the TRS and the Congress were looting and cheating the people. As an MP from Mahabubnagar, KCR did nothing for the development of the constituency.
