Hyderabad: Thanking the State government for installing Dr BR Ambedkar’s statue on the premises of the Assembly, Telangana Jagruthi and a few Dalit organisations, however, demanded replacing the present statue by April 14 ( his birth anniversary) , as it did not resemble the father of the Indian Constitution. The SC community hailed Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha for waging a relentless fight in the last two years for installing Dr Ambedkar’s statue on the Assembly premises.
Addressing a news conference, Kavitha sought immediate response from the government, since Dalit organisations were expressing reservations over the features of the statue not resembling Dr Ambedkar.
This type of controversy surfaced after Babu Jagjivan Ram’s statue was installed earlier at Basheerbagh Press Club. However, the government duly responded and replaced the statue with a proper one, TRS MP G Vivek pointed out. He appealed to the State government to follow the same regarding Ambedkar statue at the Assembly.
Meanwhile, SC leaders Prem Kumar and Addanki Dayaker said that once Telangana state was formed, the new government would make amends if the present government ignored their pleas.
