Hyderabad: In what could be a shocker for the champions of united Andhra Pradesh, Congress leaders and the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Tribal Welfare Minister P Balaraju on Wednesday extended his support to the Telangana Bill.

Participating in the debate on the Draft T Bill in the Assembly, he said he was an integrationist to the core but would obey the Congress high command’s decision to divide the State. Taking strong exception to the TDP’s allegation that Congress endorsed Telangana to elevate AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Minister said the submission of letter to the Centre by the TDP in support of Telangana gave the same impression that the TDP also wanted to see Rahul as PM.

Alleging that the TDP took a U-turn on the bifurcation issue for political gains, Balaraju questioned why TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu demanded a Rs 5 lakh crore package for Seemandhra immediately after the Centre announced Telangana. He also demanded Naidu to spell out the meaning of equal justice.

Demanding the Centre to provide rehabilitation to the evacuees before taking up Polavaram project, the minister said the Bill did not mention the backwardness of districts in Seemandhra. The demands and concerns raised by the Seemandhra people should also be addressed before adopting the Telangana Bill in Parliament, Balaraju added.
