The government also softened and announced a fair deal for them.
The Minister for Transport, Botcha Satyanarayana, announced a 27 per cent interim relief (IR), yielding to the demands of the unions. An agreement was reached to this effect between the two sides late on Sunday night. As a result, the RTC unions to decided to withdraw the strike call. RTC Managing Director J Purnachandra Rao said that the corporation would have to face a burden of Rs 380 crore on account of the IR hike.
The unions welcomed the gesture as they happened to get such a huge IR for the first time after 34 years. A freshly recruited driver would get an additional Rs 1,770 and a conductor Rs 1,750 as per the new structure.
