Warangal: The menace of ragging has surfaced at National Institute of Technology (NIT) here. Nine students have been suspended as part of disciplinary action.

It is learnt that a group of students clashed at the hostel on Friday, and some second year students manhandled a first year student on Friday. The parents of the boy lodged a complaint with the authorities.

The college disciplinary committee conducted an enquiry into the incident on Saturday and it came to light that the injured student was being ragged by the seniors.

NIT dean (students’ affairs) S Srinivasa Rao and PRO P Ravi Kumar told media persons that on Tuesday that nine students whose involvement was found in the ragging had been suspended for one year.

Those suspended, except one studying in the fourth year, are all second year students. They identified as P Venkata Surendra (Biotechnology), Jitin Mannar (Mechanical), K Chandrasekhar (Mechanical), K Anil Kumar (Mechanical), T Vamsi Krishna (Mechanical), M Tharun Kumar (Mechanical), U Venkatesh (ECE), B Arun Kumar (ECE) and K Pavan Kumar (fourth year-Material & Metallurgy).
